Games You Can Play With Your Dog

All dogs need to be stimulated physically and mentally, and love human contact. To keep your dog from boredom they need to be around humans a lot of the time, and have exercise regularly with walks. Another great way of staving off boredom in your dog and also to build a strong bond is through games. Here are a few common games you can play with your dog.
Frisbee
Once you have your dog trained to fetch items, playing with a Frisbee can be great fun. You can throw a Frisbee much further than a ball, so the dog gets more exercise.
Tug of war
Tug of war is a great way to keep your dog entertained, but only if it is already trained to drop toys on command. You can buy specially made toys for tug of war games, which are stronger than normal toys. Also be careful not to play this game with puppies as their teeth may not be strong enough, and could be damaged
Ball games
All dogs love ball games, and could literally spend hours chasing down balls. Make sure your dog has learnt to fetch otherwise you could spend more of your time retrieving the ball yourself than playing with the dog. Also avoid playing with small balls that could go down the dogs throat, and always throw the ball away from it.
Games can also be a great way to reinforce training and commands, so practice getting your dog to come and sit throughout the game. Always make sure that the dog is aware that the toys are yours and not his by always being the last to have the toy once the game has finished. Once you have used these games a lot, try different variations to keep things interesting and stimulating for the dog.
