Boarding Your Dog by Robert Cunningham

You have the opportunity to take a vacation for two weeks but alas no one is available to take care of your pet. Boarding can be a good experience for your pet if you have made the proper preparations. The number one step is checking out the boarding facility and making sure it is clean and doesn't smell.
Make a list of questions to ask the staff such as (1) Are all boarders required to have up to date vaccinations? (2) Are the pets allowed quality time for play and potty breaks each day? (3) Can you have references from other boarders to see how they rate the facility?
Provide the facility with your pet's diet and information on any health conditions or behavioral patterns that need to be addressed. If you prefer to bring your pet's own diet you can prebag each meal and any treats to assure your pet is fed his correct diet. Be sure to provide any medication your pet needs.
Leave information on your pet's veterinary clinic in case of emergency. Provide another contact person to authorize any emergency treatment if you cannot be reached making it quicker for your pet to get the necessary treatment he might need. Being prepared for any unforseen emergency is always the best option.
When you have picked the right boarding facility be calm and happy when leaving your pet. No tearful goodbyes which can be upsetting to both you and your pet. Enjoy your vacation knowing your pet is in good hands.
